Zum IYA: Original-Teleskop Galileis kommt in die USA

Ein bemerkenswerter Fischzug ist vor wenigen Monaten Philadelphia gelungen: Das Franklin Institute mit dem meistbesuchten Museum Pennsylvanias darf im kommenden Jahr im Rahmen der Ausstellung "Galileo, Medici and The Age of Astronomy" eines der beiden noch existierenden Originalteleskope Galileis zeigen! Die Ausstellung, "timed to take place during the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s astronomical discoveries as well as the International Year of Astronomy, will explore the extraordinary effect that Galileo’s work, as well as that of other luminaries during the age of the Medicis, had on science and on the world. The one-time only special exhibition at The Franklin is to be created exclusively in partnership with the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza in Florence, Italy. The Franklin was chosen following hundreds of requests for loans of Galileo’s telescope during 2009 [...] Galileo’s telescope will leave Italy for the first and perhaps only time".

Weitere IYA-News: Bei einer Lehrer-Fortbildung in Jena vom 10.-12. Juli soll "auch die Planung der Aktivitäten zum Jahr der Astronomie 2009 eine Rolle spielen." • In Südafrika wird - motiviert durch das IYA - angestrebt, binnen 5 Jahren jede Schule mit einem Teleskop auszustatten, einem "a new educational telescope prototype kit, which is aimed at stimulating learners’ interest in space science, engineering and technology" und speziell dafür im Lande entwickelt wird. Am Rande interessant: Erfahrungen mit einer NASA-Ausstellung im Rahmen des "Folklife Festival" auf der Mall in Washington.
